I mentioned in an earlier post that there are five “Pillars” in Islam and today I’ll talk about Zakhat. It means literally “that which purifies”; Muslims are encouraged to give charitably all year round and especially during Ramadan. Tents have been appearing outside most mosques and everyone, regardless of wealth or status is welcome to come and take their Iftar meal here. The food is mostly supplied by local families and this tradition is very much part of the spirit of Ramadan.
Today’s mosque can be found in Khor Kalba, Sharjah.
Wishing all our Muslim friends “Ramadan Kareem”. May this Holy Month be a blessed one for you and your families.
