Muslims pray in the direction of Mecca so many hotels in the Middle East and North Africa have the “Qibla” Marked on the roof or a piece of furniture. When facing the Qibla wall in a mosque you are facing Mecca which is the centre of the Muslim world. In the centre of the wall is the Mihrab Arch and the Imam faces into this when leading prayers – the shape helps reflect his voice back to the congregation.
