In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Vivid.”
You might have noticed that I have been studying for my Abu Dhabi Tour Guide License, which I confess to finding a bit tough going in places. The part I am really enjoying is that pertaining to the Culture of the UAE – a subject I thought I knew a lot about but it turns out I lacked depth in some places.
Anyhow, here in the UAE the men wear kanduras (long shirt dresses) normally in white or cream, and when in public the ladies wear black abayas over the top of their daily clothes. It is always a delight then to see the young girls in vividly coloured dresses as they perform the “hair dance” where they sway to the beat of the music, tossing their luscious long black hair from side to side.
This dance is very popular at special events such as the Sultan Bin Zayed Camel Festival and other occasions when Emirati culture is put on show for the world to see.
