Sunday Sandy Snapshot #33

Liwa – lying on the North East edge of the Empty Quarter (Rub Al Khali) – is typified by beige-red sand, often with a layer of dark red sand on top.  The shape of the dunes you find here are also distinctive – crescent shapes with the slipface (the bit where the dune stops and wind-blown sand falls over) usually to the south.
