شوف (arabic) shoof: look! see! (english)
There are many renovated forts and villages throughout the Sultanate, but I like to go and explore abandoned buildings to try to catch a glimpse of life long ago.
I chanced upon this old majlis in the town of Ibri, and couldn’t resist snapping the date palm roof timbers, elaborately decorated. Look closely and you might see that halfway along one has a quote from the Qaran on it.
Many years ago the village elders would have gathered here, under this decorative ceiling, to discuss community business.
Oman is a truly wonderful country, full of beautiful places to visit and interesting things to see. Some tourists are content to spend their holidays within the confines of their luxurious Arabian styled 4 star hotels, and there is nothing wrong with that. However if you get yourself out there you might find something unusual, quirky or bizarre to photograph and any Omanis you encounter will bowl you over with their kindness and hospitality. I have traveled extensively throughout the Sultanate and not seen half of all there is to see. Will you follow me and شوف Oman?
