In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Express Yourself.”
Driving in the desert one autumn morning last year I startled an owl which then flew out of a bush and landed in a small sand bowl beside me. In five years of desert driving I’d never seen an owl in the sand and certainly not in daylight hours!
By it’s surprised expression I reckon it’s thinking “First time I’ve ever seen a Desert Diva up close!”

what a fun great photograph! a winner! those eyes!
Thank you Patrechia! It was an amazing moment – and since then I have seen another two, but none quite so photogenic 🙂
That’s exactly what I thought he/she was thinking!! Excellent grab!
Thanks Tina – my car window was open so I shouted out “stay there til I get my camera, don’t move” – and it didn’t. Such an obliging little bird 🙂
Great capture, I enjoyed this photograph very much 🙂
Thank you!
I would love to have seen that in person.

Okay. This is officially one of my favorite pictures.
Thanks Nikki!
You will have to come out with me one day to search for some more desert owls!
Would love to! Name the day!
