In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Today Was a Good Day.”
This week’s WPC challenges us to put together a slide show where we share a series of photographs. They can be snippets from a “real” perfect day, or a slideshow of favourite things – I have put together an imaginary day.
You might have noticed that I like the desert, and driving, and UAE culture, so here is my perfect day in the Rub Al Khali, the Empty Quarter. Please bear in mind it would be geographically impossible in 24 hours!
- My perfect day would be waking up in a tent, just before sunrise
- with my lovely hubby, Neil
- we would do a little bit of pre-breakfast desert driving, to make the most of the “magic hour”
- if we were near a camel race track we would drop by to catch some action
- returning to camp we would put the ketttle on
- then we would jump in our cars once more and search for some desert creatures…. winter is baby camel season.
- We would stop at a remote oasis and rest in the shade of a palm tree
- and for lunch we would drop in past the lovely Liwa Hotel, maybe have a swim too
- we would meander back across the desert to our camp…. which way should we go?
- Occasionally you encounter oryx in the Empty Quarter
- but more often than not you will find gazelle
- no “perfect” day in the desert would be complete without finding a water tanker to climb upon
- and leave an Oasis Offroad sticker
- we would drop by friends at a farm, and they would be cooking lovely Iranian oil drum bread
- we might chance upon a local farmer escorting his camels back to their farm
- before returning to our camp to enjoy a stunning desert sunset
- we would feast on Somalian style camel stew…
- by candlelight, while watching a starry sky appear above us
- then once more we would camp for the night, at least 50kms from the nearest civilisation. Perfect!
